In-Home Care was originally designed to assist with non medical tasks such as housekeeping, meal preparation, shopping, companionship, etc. More recently, some In-Home Care providers have expanded their services and offer hands on care such as assistance with dressing, bathing, toileting and medication reminders. In-Home Care is provided by licensed agencies and also by independent providers.
Aging at home is an attractive alternative for many seniors who just need a little extra help. Working with an In-Home Care provider can be less expensive than moving into Assisted Living when the need for assistance is minimal. At the cost of $25-30 dollars per hour, in-home care can become expensive very quickly and can easily cost $10,000- $12,000 per month for 24 hour care. When care needs are minimal or the need is short term, getting extra help that enables you to be independent and stay in your home longer is worth exploring.
Most In-Home Care is paid for privately but may also be covered by Medicaid or Long Term Care Insurance. Medicare and health insurance will not pay for this care.
